English defender Chris Smalling is expected to be out on Sunday versus Monza.
After earlier reports suggested the centreback could recover in time for Roma’s first game after the international break, today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport suggests Smalling’s recovery hasn’t been so successful.
The newspaper claims Smalling has failed to get rid of the inflammation in his muscles caused by chronic tendinitis.
The club’s medical staff prefer to wait for him until the player feels 100% fit rather than potentially risking him any further.
Smalling will not resume training with the rest of the team prior to this weekend’s fixture.
