Chris Smalling: “This is the most passionate trophy win for me.”

Andy Mattioli

Roma defender Chris Smalling once again put up an incredible performance that helped the Giallorossi maintain a crucial clean sheet against Feyenoord.

The Englishman sounded delighted in his post-match conference. “This is the most passionate and intense trophy win for me, the most important trophy is always the last one, and I haven’t won in years.”

“I think you can see that we, as a club, had to win the game at all costs. It’s been a season of ups and downs, but we have the best fans in the world.”

On what changed following Mkhitaryan’s exit in the first half, “We backed down too much, we knew that Micki was not 100%, he wanted to be there with us because he is one of the best and this allowed others to be deployed elsewhere.”

“Mkhi is a symbol of our attitude, we are willing to give everything.”

On his future in the capital, Smalling replied, “I have a contract with the club, if the coach wants me I’m right here.”
