The future of Chris Smalling is entirely in the Englishman’s hands.
With his current contract set to expire in June 2023, Smalling is now pondering the possibility of further extending his stay in the Italian capital.
According to Il Tempo, Smalling holds a unilateral option in his contract which would enable him to renew with the capital club until 2024 once he completes 50% of all season appearances.
The Giallorossi are not preoccupied with the situation and are patiently awaiting the defender to reach his 29th season appearance to learn of his future intentions.
Roma are reportedly open and eager to extend Smalling’s contract. However, the club want the conditions to be suitable for them given the player’s age.
The Englishman is expected to make up his mind later in January.
