Roma defender Chris Smalling was once again one of the main protagonists in tonight’s display at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
The Englishman did a fine job of keeping Victor Osimhen away from Rui Patricio’s goal.
After the final whistle, Smalling spoke to the club’s official channels and praised team effort and unity.
“We started well and in the end we created a lot more chances than them,” he said.
“We had a penalty whistled against us but we continued to play and fight. In the second half we saw the way we kept pushing. Even after the equaliser we had another couple of chances.”
“ I think you’re seeing a team that is really united, and a team that fights.”
“As the coach said, we have a positive mentality. I think you can see that we are very united, especially seeing the reaction of those who come off the bench. In the last few games, the changes have made a big difference.”
“We have to go ahead with this mentality until the end of the season, then see where we get. And maybe next season we can aim to have the continuity we are having in the last stretch.”
