Chris Smalling’s future increasingly linked away from Roma

Andy Mattioli

Roma defender Chris Smalling continues being linked with a summer exit from the club.

The Englishman’s scarce usage and availability this season – made more difficult by a series of injuries that continue to plague him since the beginning of Roma’s campaign – are likely to make a difference ahead of the summer window.

Roma, in fact, are intent on reconsidering Smalling’s position at the club, reports Il Messaggero.

The Giallorossi are said to be open to the idea of selling Smalling for a symbolic fee this coming summer given his renewed deal in last year’s off-season.

According to the newspaper, Smalling is likely to draw offers from the Saudi Pro League, at which point Roma would not think twice about accepting any of them – the defender’s salaray weighs considerably on Roma’s wage bill and the club wish to move into a more sustainable future.
