Christian Vieri: “I nearly joined Roma to play alongside Totti and Cassano.”

Former Inter striker and Italian international Christian Vieri revealed on his Twitch stream, Bobo TV, that he was very close to joining Roma during the latter stages of his career.

Asked to recount an interesting transfer market-related anecdote from his playing days, Vieri admitted he nearly moved to the Italian capital in 2004 to play alongside his two friends, Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano. However, the deal never materialised and he ultimately remained at Inter.

“I was headed to Roma to team-up with Totti and Cassano,” Vieri told his audience.

“The deal was going to be a loan swap with (Vincenzo) Montella headed the other way. However, [Roberto] Mancini was appointed the new manager of Inter and he convinced me to remain with the Nerazzurri.”

Adding, “As a player, sometimes you need a change of scenery and a different experience.”
