Roma are set to appoint Claudio Ranieri as caretaker for the remainder of the season, marking his third stint at the helm of his hometown club.
The former Chelsea, Leicester City, and Sampdoria manager has confirmed his return to the Giallorossi after Ivan Juric’s dismissal late Sunday, making him the club’s fourth manager this year.
Ranieri, 73, had announced his retirement at the end of last season, following a successful stint at Cagliari where he ensured their survival in Serie A.
Currently sitting 12th in the table and enduring their worst start in over two decades, Roma find themselves in a situation strikingly similar to Ranieri’s last stint in 2019.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Ranieri appeared upbeat as he spoke to Ansa while en-route to the airport for his flight back to Rome.
“[Roma’s] a tough nut to crack? That’s why they called me!” he joked. “We’re all set—the good guys are coming!”
