Claudio Ranieri praises Mourinho and Roma’s Conference League victory

Andy Mattioli

Former Roma manager Claudio Ranieri spoke about the importance of the capital club’s recent European victory in an interview with Il Messaggero.

“In Europe England and Spain continue to rule over football, just look at the number of trophies won by Premier League and La Liga clubs.”

“That’s why it seems absurd to me to downplay the importance of Roma’s success in the Conference League,” he told the Italian newspaper.

“The Conference League is still a European competition and deserves respect. Mourinho gave an important signal. He understood that in the league the team could not reach goals of a certain level and he focused on European football instead.”

“Mourinho is a phenomenon,” he concluded. “He arrives in Rome and wins right away.”
