Roma’s European fate hangs in the balance ahead of Thursday’s second leg showdown against Bodø/Glimt at the Stadio Olimpico.
The two sides face-off in the Italian capital on Thursday evening for the second and final leg of their Conference League quarterfinals tie, with the Norwegians holding a 2-1 aggregate lead.
Unsurprisingly, a contentious affair is expected following the fallout from last week’s drama at full-time between the two club’s coaching staffs.
Roma goalkeeper coach Nuno Santos came to blows with Bodø/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen, with the two clubs ultimately blaming the other for the skirmish. However, yesterday UEFA announced that both coaches were provisionally suspended and unable to take part in Thursday’s showdown.
The announcement angered Bodø/Glimt, who promptly released a statement on their official social media channels, “We are surprised and shocked by the decision from UEFA. We will appeal, and will work with it throughout the evening.”
“Beyond that, we currently have no comments and will not respond to inquiries from the media before a meeting later tonight.”
As for on the pitch matters, Roma boss José Mourinho will welcome back playmaker Lorenzo Pellegrini, who was suspended for Sunday’s 2-1 win over Salernitana. In addition, Leonardo Spinazzola trained with the group today after marking his return from injury.
Bodø/Glimt, meanwhile, are sweating the status of starting pair Brede Moe and Amahl Pellegrino. The duo was injured in Sunday’s win against Sandefjord and were forced to be substituted off and their status for Thusday is still a question mark.
Kick-off is scheduled for 21.00 CET at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
