Contact between Mourinho-Sergio Ramos

John Solano

Former Real Madrid central defender and captain, Sergio Ramos, is being linked with a potential move to Roma.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Jose Mourinho has been in contact with the veteran defender after Real Madrid opted not to renew his contract.

Mourinho reportedly considers Ramos an ideal reinforcement who can add a wealth of experience, knowledge, and mentality to the Giallorossi.

Even though the 35 year-old would command huge wages, the capital club could take advantage of Italy’s tax law known as the ‘decreto crescita’, which would help relieve some of the financial burden.

It remains to be seen if Ramos joining the club is realistic, but that hasn’t prevented ‘The Special One’ from doing what he can to try and convince him to move to Italy.

Should Roma receive a positive signal from the Spaniard, they’d likely attempt to quickly offload fellow central defender Chris Smalling, who has been linked with a return to the Premier League.
