Roma became the latest victims of Cremonese’s fairytale run in the Coppa Italia as they were eliminated at home in the quarterfinals of the competition.

A first half penalty and an own goal early in the second half were all the Grigiorossi needed to punch their ticket to the semi-finals where they’ll face Fiorentina.

Roma, meanwhile, were lifeless this evening following a turbulent week which included Nicolo Zaniolo’s transfer request and a late defeat in Campania against Napoli.

It’s an incredibly disappointing result for Jose Mourinho’s side given the Coppa Italia was arguably their best opportunity at a trophy this season.

Once again, the capital club’s goalscoring struggles came to haunt them. Despite facing the second-worse defence in Serie A, the Giallorossi couldn’t find the back of the net until the final moments of the match through Andrea Belotti.

They registered nearly 20 shots in the game yet still couldn’t breakthrough the visitor’s defence and were left frustrated from beginning to end.

Though, Roma won’t have long to dwell on the poor result because they’re back in action on Saturday evening when they host Empoli in round 21 of Serie A.
