Roma leave the Bentegodi with three crucial points in a hard fought match with Hellas Verona which resulted in a late 3-1 win.
Youngster Cristian Volpato proved to be Mourinho’s surprise off the bench, gifting the Giallorossi the go-ahead goal and providing Stephan El Shaarawy with a precious assist to seal the away victory.
“The coach called me from the sidelines and told me I would be going in immediately,” Volpato said excitedly in his post-match interview with DAZN.
“I hadn’t even had time to warm up. But, I am very happy, I tried to change the game and bring some much needed energy. I didn’t give up.”
“After the game Mourinho said I had been very lucky with that goal,” he added.
“I know that I’m the youngest player on the roster. I must be patient and have respect for everyone else.”
