Cristian Volpato was presented by Sassuolo earlier today following last month’s move to the club from Roma.
The 19 year-old joined the Neroverdi last month after they agreed to pay Roma a total of €7.5 million plus a 15% sell-on clause for the midfielder’s signature.
“Sassuolo had been interested in me for two years and I was always intrigued because I knew it was a good place for young players.,” he said in his first interview with Sassuolo’s official television channel.
“They’ve always had a good team. Many players like Scamacca and Frattesi have already been here. I’d really wanted this opportunity so now it’s all up to me.”
“Roma? When I first arrived there I didn’t expect much. Initially it was tough but the city was beautiful and the passion for football is immense. My debut was such a special moment because it happened unexpectedly.”
He continued, “I remember walking on to the pitch and thinking I was playing on Playstation—I just looked around the stadium at all the supporters. Even more special, though, was my first goal. Bove and I both scored so it was a special moment for us youngsters.”
“Football idols? In Rome, Totti is a god. He’s like a brother for me. He’s always trying to help me—we’re constantly in touch. He was one of my idols, along with Maradona and Cristiano Ronaldo.”
