Daniele De Rossi reacts to Roma’s defeat to Atalanta: “We do not deserve to finish above them.”

Daniele De Rossi expressed his disappointment at the team’s 2-1 defeat to Atalanta.

After effectively seeing their hopes for Champions League football vanish before them, De Rossi analyzed his team’s performance in his post-match interview with DAZN.

“There was the reaction at the end after the penalty. We have to react first, they are strong and perform twice as fast as many teams in Italy and Europe. We have to find that drive within ourselves, win a few more duels and play better, we can’t wait for the penalty to take initiative. After the first goal we loosened up, I know it wasn’t easy but we risked conceding a lot of goals and that’s not good.”

“It’s not a question of courage. I didn’t like that Lukaku was so isolated. So then I thought that with another attacker in the second half we could get to their penalty area more easily.”

“We have to find this lost energy, we have to finish sixth because the group deserves it. We don’t deserve to finish in front of this Atalanta team in these conditions. All these matches have been an obstacle for the boys, we will rest and rebuild in order to be ready for this kind of level of football. Strong teams play every three days, we can’t get tired. We have to be ready, they go twice as fast, we have to be more prepared if we want to reach them.”
