Daniele De Rossi speaks ahead of Brighton return leg

Roma manager Daniele De Rossi attended today’s pre-match press conference on the eve of the Giallorossi’s return leg with Brighton.

De Rossi and his men will look to secure their qualification to the next round after beating Brighton 4-0 in the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

“Managing the result does not mean sitting back, locking yourself in your own penalty area and hoping not to concede 4 goals,” said the Italian technician on Wednesday evening.

“Dybala is fine and I am still to decide whether he will play or not. Lukaku has a hip problem and needs rest,” De Rossi added. “We will have to see when this problem will be resolved. It’s a recurring issue for him.”

“Tomorrow we have to be careful. We must be aware that Brighton had 4/5 chances in the first leg,” he continued. “They will try to score and we will have to counter that.”

“Great teams like Roma have moments of decline and then rise again regardless of who the coach is. It’s normal,” said De Rossi of Roma’s moment. “It’s ups and downs and we have to work like this.”

“We have to think that if we scored two goals, our average, it would be difficult to concede 6, but we have to play another great game.”

“Physically, teams like Roma have players who are stronger than those they face. And that’s how you win games. I’m happy with the journey, I never imagined such a positive start to my time here, and by this I mean also the feeling we’ve created in the dressing room, beyond the tactics and the results.”

“They strongly believe what I try to convey to them, I am satisfied. Game after game I see things that I like more and more, then there are opponents and setbacks but it’s part of the season. Coming into the break with a great result tomorrow and Sunday will be among the best starts I could dream of.”
