Former Roma fullback Davide Santon – who recently was forced to retire from football due to persistent knee issues which prevented him from fulfilling the demands of a professional athlete – spoke about his relationship with Mourinho in a recent interview with Tuttosport.

After all, the pair worked together at Inter many years ago, with Santon making his debut under the Special One.

“He was the one who threw me into the mix and the one I concluded my career with,” said the 31-year-old.

“I’m sorry not to have been part of his Roma, but those are decisions made by the club that I understand which didn’t include me,” he added, referring to Roma’s decision to exclude him from group training in the final year of his contract

“When it comes to the use of words, Mou is always the number one. The players love him, José makes himself loved. Even though he has won a lot, he is still hungry and passionate for what he does. He can win again.”

“I think Mourinho’s dream is to win the Scudetto with the Giallorossi,” he remarked.
