Daniele De Rossi refused to take credit for Roma’s winning performance in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinals with Milan.

After delivering a sunning blow to Milan in their own home at the San Siro, De Rossi spoke to Roma TV and moved all of the attention to the members of his staff who enabled the team to prepare as best possible for the match-up with the Rossoneri.

“All of the ideas that allowed us to win tonight were born through the preparation that went into this match,” said De Rossi at full-time on Thursday night.

“I have a sensational staff, sometimes I arrive and they have already done everything and know everything by heart,” he added.

“They helped me a lot in making the decision to have El Shaarawy play on the right flank – we’ve been thinking about it for days but we couldn’t distract ourselves because there are so many games to be played.”

“We knew we had to put someone on that side, we had made various hypotheses and then we thought that Stephan was the right choice for that position. We spoke to him and he made himself immediately available. My staff were of great help to me,” he said.
