Alessandro Austini of Il Tempo reports that Daniele De Rossi is nearing a return to the Italian national team and he could also be handed a contract renewal with Roma.
Reportedly, Italian national team boss Roberto Mancini had a private chat with the midfielder, who gave his full availability to the team despite having quit after the disaster against Sweden. De Rossi has a clear objective in mind: Euro 2020. De Rossi dreams of playing in another major tournament and at 37 years old, he knows it’s still possible.
To stay at a high level until 2020, De Rossi would need to continue playing in a competitive environment, so in his mind, there is the prospect of extending his contract for another year as his current deal expires in 2019. He has already addressed the topic with Monchi, in a totally informal manner, and the two have promised to talk about it during the next season, when the midfielder will better understand how he is feeling and how much high level football is left in his legs. In the case that he is ready to continue, Monchi is ready to satisfy him, perhaps re-discussing his wages and his centrality from a technical standpoint to the project.
Meanwhile, Florenzi and Roma are still divided but not so much. Monchi, who is on holiday in Spain, offers €2.7 million plus bonuses to climb above €3 million while the winger asks for €3.5 million, talks will continue.
