De Rossi joins Italian national team staff

Former Roma and Italy midfielder Daniele De Rossi has officially joined the staff of the Italian national team.

De Rossi has been appointed as a technical coach under manager Roberto Mancini. It marks the first coaching role for the ex-Roma captain following his retirement last year.

“I’m proud to start this new career with the national team. I want to thank both President Gravina and Roberto Mancini for this opportunity,” he said to the FIGC’s website.

“It will be exciting to return to Coverciano, which means coming back home and seeing many of my former teammates and friends. I can’t wait to get started, I’ve got a lot of enthusiasm but I realise I have a lot to learn. I hope to be able to help the team.”

Added Mancini, “I’m very pleased that Daniele is joining us. I’m certain that he’ll be able to give the players an important contribution. I hope that this experience will be useful for his future.”
