De Rossi shares update on Romelu Lukaku’s injury

Daniele De Rossi spoke to Sky Sport on the eve of Roma’s Europa League return leg with Brighton.

The Italian coach was specifically asked about Romelu Lukaku who did not travel with the team due to injury and is unavailable for Thursday’s fixture.

“Lukaku has a hip problem that systematically returns every few months. The treatment he receives leads him to stay out for a few days. We’ll see how it works out,” said De Rossi.

“Will he be back soon? I don’t want to say it because I don’t know. I think so, they tell me yes but I don’t know anything about it. The hip is the only thing I’ve never injured in my career so I don’t know anything about this kind of injury.”

“Rotations? It’s not a question of turnover, it’s a question of wanting fresh players to play a good match like we did in the first leg. Many players have played many games so we need fresh players in whom I have a lot of confidence. It’s not a question of reserves or starters, it’s a question of always having players giving 200% on the pitch.”

“Am I tired? I don’t sleep much at night because I’m always thinking about this job. I haven’t slept much for two months, I’m tired but I’m happy. This job gives me a lot. I’m tired but I’m better than two months ago when I was waiting and hungry for work.”
