Defrel rejoining Sassuolo: tomorrow the signatures

After a long transfer market saga that saw him nearly joining both Cagliari and Sampdoria, Gregoire Defrel has decided to return to Sassuolo. Sky Sport reports that the Frenchman has opted to return to the Neroverdi, whom he spent two seasons with from 2015-2017. The move will signal the end of Defrel’s disappointing tenure with Roma after he joined the Giallorossi in 2017 on loan with an obligation to buy totaling €20 million. The ex-Cesena man went on loan to Sampdoria last season and flourished in Genova as he scored 12 goals in all competitions.

Just weeks ago, Defrel was a step away from joining Cagliari before talks stalled due to a disagreement on payment method for the deal. The attacker will sign with Sasssuolo tomorrow and undergo a medical to complete his move back to the Mapei Stadium.
