Delays for The Friedkin Group’s acquisition of Cannes

RomaPress – Roma president Dan Friedkin and his company, The Friedkin Group, have asked for an extension of the deadline for their acquisition of Ligue 2 outfit Cannes.

Earlier this year, the American automotive and cinema mogul, who acquired Roma in August 2020, entered negotiations to acquire the French club from president Anny Courtade. After enlisting the help of Goldman Sachs to broker the deal, Courtade accepted The Friedkin Group’s offer and hoped to close the deal by the middle of this year.

However, multiple delays have caused the operation to stall, with the latest coming just days after the American consortium requested an extension of the close date. A source from The Friedkin Group informed RomaPress internal discussions are ongoing as they reflect on the “best outcome for all parties” in regards to the deal. While the group are optimistic the takeover will ultimately go through, an additional 10-12 months may be required before it’s finalised.
