Even though he is currently on the sidelines as he continues to recover from a torn ACL, Roma starlet Nicolo Zaniolo and his personal life have recently been thrust into the spotlight.
The Italian attacker recently struck up a relationship with 33 year-old Madalina Ghenea, a Romanian model and actress, following his split with former girlfriend Sara Scaperrotta, who announced last week that she is pregnant with Zaniolo’s child.
When the news emerged, Zaniolo admitted in an interview with Corriere dello Sport that, “I told Sara that didn’t feel ready for such a commitment but she decided to continue the pregnancy, which is a decision I respect. Nonetheless, I will take on my responsibility as a father.”
He also asked for privacy in the matter as he wanted to keep his focus on recovering from his injury and returning to the pitch as soon as possible.
Today, though, his mother, Francesca Costa, and his agent, Claudio Vigorelli, both appeared on Radio Radio to discuss the matter.
“Too much of a fuss is being made. We didn’t want things to be revealed in this manner, we wanted to keep it private,” said Zaniolo’s mother. “Nicolo isn’t interested in creating gossip but I couldn’t stay silent after hearing certain things being said from journalists.”
“Sara has always been treated like a daughter by our family, and especially me, as we experienced the lockdown period together. But we found out about the pregnancy when Nicolo called us and was very upset. He sounded desperate so we returned from Spezia after he and Sara got in a fight. He was no longer in love with her.”
”It’s true that she already had an abortion seven months ago after she decided that they weren’t mature enough or ready for a child.”
Her words were then echoed by Zaniolo’s agent and representative, Claudio Vigorelli, who claimed that the story and the tabloids have gone too far, “This story has caused a stir because Nicolo is a talented player.”
”I’d prefer if certain matters stayed among a family. This situation has gotten out of hand.”
