One day after scoring his first senior goal for Roma, news has emerged that highly rated youngster Riccardo Calafiori is closing in on a contract renewal with the club.
Sky Sport reports that the 18 year-old is set to sign a new five-year contract with the Giallorossi — the deal includes a significant pay rise from his current €400,000 annual (net) wages.
Calafiori’s agent, Mino Raiola, initially requested an increase to €1.2 million in annual (net) wages, but Roma considered the figure excessive.
Despite the many bumps and stalls in negotiations, the parties are now closing in on definitive agreement.
The club stuck by Calafiori’s side after the youngster suffered two ACL injuries in successive seasons — even though there were question marks as to whether or not he would be able to return to full fitness, Roma’s continued patience and confidence in the player has paid off.
