Di Francesco speaks ahead of preseason start

Roma manager Eusebio Di Francesco gave a lengthy interview today to Il Centro. These are his words:

You’re coming off a season where you finished third in Serie A and went to the Champions League semifinals. You also won over the supporters.
I’m glad, I’m proud to go around and receive people’s thanks. It means of having brought back enthusiasm and a sense of belonging. That must be the point where we restart. We want to do better despite our opponent. We can improve through our attitude, our work and our mentality.

The Scudetto fight?
We want to be there too, we want to be protagonists even further and annoy those who finished above us in the standings. At Juventus there is a team effort, which is a little bit of what I preach to Roma: we must take care of the “us” more than the “I”.

Are you satisfied with Roma’s transfer market?
It is not yet finished, although it must be said that our sporting director Monchi has worked well. He moved with a lot of speed. Perhaps we need to thin out the roster a bit, we are making assessments and will make other decisions during the ritiro.

Nainggolan to Inter?
A shared choice has been made. With Radja, I had a very good relationship, we even spoke recently. I wish him the best.

Javier Pastore, among others, has arrived at Roma.
He is one of the few new ones with whom I spoke to and he gave me positive feelings. He arrives here to play as a mezz’ala, but his flexibility is also important to make tactical changes to the team. He has characteristics that were not there before in our team. Quality and imagination designed to increase our attacking strength, especially against those teams that sit back.
