Newly appointed manager Eusebio Di Francesco held his first press conference today as the new Roma boss, here is an excerpt of his words:
Monchi begins: “Today is an important day. We welcome someone who has been here before, it’s an important homecoming. When Spalletti decided to leave, we immediately focused on Di Francesco as our next manager.”
Di Francesco: “I want to start by thanking President Pallotta and directors Gandini, Baldissoni and Monchi for this opportunity. It’s a unique opportunity, I’m happy for this chance. I want to salute all the people of Sassuolo, who have been close to me for five years. They were great years. A special thanks to Dr. Squinzi, this is an indelible page of sport that will be in my heart.”
What idea of Roma do you have over these last few years?
It is a very competitive team, with interesting players, high profile players. They had a strong team like Juve and proved to be a top club.
Is it very difficult to manage in Rome because of the environment?
With Monchi, we talked about creating togetherness, there will be difficult and easy moments, but we hope to be going more downhill than struggling uphill, but it is all a part of this work. It’s a particular thing, it isn’t difficult place if you want to call it that, but I’m happy to meet this wonderful adventure.
Is there a chance to see Berardi at Roma?
The sporting director will answer that. I can say that Berardi is a great player, I have seen him grow but that does not mean that there is a deal, though, he is a very high profile player.
