Former Roma and Inter striker Edin Dzeko admitted he was surprised by ex-teammate Romelu Lukaku’s decision to join the Giallorossi this summer from Chelsea.

Now with Fenerbahçe, the Bosnian commented on the Belgian’s move to the Italian capital before he discussed his decision to leave Serie A after nearly a decade.

“I would have gladly stayed, I was really happy at Inter,” he told Amazon Prime Video.

“Obviously the season end as we’d hoped during my two years with the club, but that’s football. Perhaps last season we put all our faith in the Champions League and gave a little less in Serie A.”

Adding, “As for the club’s decision to let me go, I was certain it was done so they could put more faith in Lukaku since there’d be one less striker that could threaten his starting place.”

“And that’s why I was really surprised by the fact he didn’t end up back at Inter.”
