Roma midfielder Edoardo Bove urged his side to show the character next week in Germany after he scored the lone goal in his team’s 1-0 first leg win over Bayer Leverkusen.

The youngster bagged his first Europa League goal with a fine left footed finish midway through the second to give the Giallorossi an advantage ahead of the return leg.

“I’m thrilled with both the goal and the result,” Bove told Sky Sport. “It was essential for us to win the first leg.”

“We’ll go to Germany next week with the same determination and character we showed tonight. We were aggressive going into every single duel and this is what’s needed to win.”

He added, “We played with a lot of intensity so we’re pleased with the performance. Early on they had a few good counter-attacks but we really grew into the game.”
