There are a lot of doubts regarding who Mourinho will choose to replace Pellegrini with. The Special One has several options on the table and tomorrow’s derby may be the chance to surprise everyone – including Maurizio Sarri.
According to Il Tempo, Mkhitaryan is the favorite to land the job as trequartista with Zaniolo on the right and either El Shaarawy or Shomurodov on the left wing. The Armenian international has played some of his best football as a virtual number 10 behind the striker.
However, there is also another alternative: Shomurodov could play behind Tammy Abraham.
Despite the two having a disappointing start together vs Hellas Verona, Mourinho values Shomurodov as a valid option for the number 10 role.
On the other hand it is unlikely that the Special One will choose to advance Veretout by slotting Diawara in alongside Bryan Cristante.
