RomaPress – Just in time for their Europa League semi-final against Manchester United, Roma will recover key pieces from injury as they prepare to face the Red Devils in two weeks.
Attacker Stephan El Shaarawy suffered a thigh strain twelve days ago but is nearing a complete recovery and should be ready. The situation is similar for Leonardo Spinazzola. The left back injured his groin in the first leg against Ajax and was ruled out for 2-3 weeks. The Italian was absent from yesterday’s second leg but is expect to return to full training next week.
For Chris Smalling, though, question marks still remain as to whether or not he’ll return in time to face his former club. The Englishman has missed much of the past three months due to a lingering calf injury.
He was expected to return earlier this month but has experienced multiple setbacks – not to mention his family being robbed early this morning by three masked gunmen.
Manager Paulo Fonseca is hopeful that Smalling will be available, but it’s a race against time for the defender to only return, but reach match fitness.
