Stephan El Shaarawy was the hero of the day in Roma’s late thriller win over Monza at Stadio Olimpico.
The Italian attacker led Roma with a late goal after a difficult match against a tough opponent in the form of Raffaele Palladino’s side.
In his post-match interview with Sky Sport, El Shaarawy described the emotional kick from the goal which also stemmed from the recent rumors of his involvement in illegal betting.
“How can you think of disrespecting football when you live through all this? It’s one of the best emotions to score and celebrate under the Curva Sud, rejoice with the fans. I’ve always just thought about playing and having fun. This was an outlet for the moment, but I’m happy for the goal and the victory.”
“Those accusations hurt me. My conscience is 100% clear and it hurts when true things aren’t said. It’s an accumulation of emotions, but I’m happy.”
“The win was very important, we are playing with continuity, something we lacked last year. Getting the fourth victory gives us confidence for the next matches.”
