Shanghai Shenhua attacker Stephan El Shaarawy was interviewed today by Sky Sport after the rumors of him wanting a return to Roma started to increase.
The former Milan man departed from the Giallorossi this past summer but is reportedly eyeing a return to the Eternal City.
What are your intentions for the future? Have you thought about returning to play in Serie A?
I tried to find a solution with the club once this Coronavirus situation arose. The season was suspended here in January and I couldn’t afford not to play. I asked the club to find a solution for me because the national team is my objective and my priority.
I had been called up the last few times and we didn’t know how this situation with the virus would evolve. We were unable to find a solution (in January) but I wanted to play. Then all the leagues suspended play so the situation is different.
Have you changed your mind now (about leaving) or do you still want to come back?
We will see in the future. For now, I play here and I have to think about doing good for this team. I can’t honestly talk about transfer market stuff right now.
Would you like to return to Roma?
I left a lot in Rome. I built a footballing path and so much more. I felt at home there and part of the family. I miss Roma, but I also miss all of Italy because it is my home.
What do you miss most about Italy?
Everything, including my parents. When you are catapulted into a world different from yours, you miss many things. I was lucky enough to return to Italy often thanks to the national team — I never lost contact with anyone.
What about Milan? Do you regret leaving?
I’ve always said I needed a change at that time. Milan is in my heart and the team I supported as a child. It was the right moment to leave.
