Stephan El Shaarawy landed in the Italian capital this weekend to complete his return to Roma from Shanghai Shenhua – however, the official announcement of his homecoming has been postponed.
Il Faraone touched down in the Eternal City on Saturday evening from Dubai to undergo his medical examinations on Sunday morning before putting pen to paper on a 2.5 years contract.
Before embarking towards Villa Stuart hospital to begin his examinations, though, the 28 year-old was informed that the oral swab he submitted late Saturday returned a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. As a result, El Shaarawy was forced to go into isolation and wait a bit longer to make his return official.
Roma were hoping that the operation would be made official today since the viral load from yesterday’s swab was minimal — but there hopes were dashed late this morning.
The attacker submitted a new test this morning, but it still showed small traces of the virus in his system, resulting in another postponement. He will continue to test on a daily basis but there is a strong belief that he should be ready tomorrow, according to Sky Sport.
