Stephan El Shaarawy has filed a lawsuit against ex-paparazzo and convicted felon Fabrizio Corona and TV program Striscia La Notizia.

The Roma player decided to pursue legal action after Corona accused him on Striscia La Notizia of being involved in the latest illegal betting scandal.

In a note that was subsequently reviewed by his legal team, El Shaarawy declared, “Although I am not inclined to expose myself publicly, my reaction can only be very firm.”

“What happened was, in no uncertain terms, a disgraceful operation and, what is even worse, surgically orchestrated: to protect myself, the club to which I am linked and, ultimately, Italian football, its authors must certainly answer for it and be dissuaded from any similar initiatives.”
