El Shaarawy talks tactical adaptability in De Rossi’s system

Stephan El Shaarawy spoke soon after Roma managed to pull off a narrow win over Hellas Verona in Daniele De Rossi’s coaching debut for Roma.

In his post-match interview with Roma TV, El Shaarawy reflected on the team’s performance and his role Daniel De Rossi’s system.

“We are not going through an easy period. This victory should help us get back on track,” said the Italian attacker. “Today it was important to win and we did it, all united to start again. It’s clear that it’s just one match, we have to do more to regain confidence in ourselves and in the public.”

“I never had any problems playing further up front or as the wing-back. It was the module that Mourinho used and I adapted. If you ask me which role I prefer, obviously my answer will be as the attacking winger, it’s the position I’ve always been more effective in.”

“My recent performances as a wing-back haven’t been good enough. Now I feel good with this module because it’s what I’ve always done best. I’m happy with the performance, but above all with the victory.”
