Stephan El Shaarawy featured as a starter today and scored a goal for the Italian national team in their 6-0 drubbing of Moldova.

Following the match, the 27 year-old appeared on Rai Sport and was asked about his near return to Roma this week.

The former Milan man had a deadline day loan deal to the Giallorossi fall through despite agreements having been in place with his parent club, Shanghai Shenhua.

“The negotiation with Roma didn’t end successfully,” rued El Shaarawy.

”It’s a shame because I wanted to return. Many things have been written but there were no problems in regards to wages.”

”If it didn’t conclude positively, it was for other reasons, which is too bad.”

Both El Shaarawy’s agent, his brother Manuel, and Shanghai Shenhua told various media members that the deal didn’t conclude successfully due to the delays in finalising Diego Perotti’s transfer to Fenerbahçe.
