With Spinazzola injured and a possible full recovery that might take between 6 and 9 months, Roma are studying potential reinforcements for the left flank. According to Alessandro Austini of Il Tempo, some European clubs have already reached out to Roma through various intermediaries offering the services of their players. One of these clubs happens to be Chelsea.
The English giants are looking to move Emerson and Marcos Alonso. The Italian fullback, who signed with Chelsea in the winter of 2018, is valued at €16mln despite his contract expiring next year. On the other hand, Chelsea prefer to first get rid of Alonso, whose salary is considerably higher than the Italian international’s. The former Fiorentina man makes €6mln/year while Emerson makes €4.5mln.
The market, however, remains open and offers a wide range of more accessible alternatives: Dimarco on the forefront, with Telles, Biraghi, Dijks, Barišić and Bradarić in the background. Additionally, Roma were also offered the services of van Aanholt, currently a free agent.
The Roman club will make a decision in the coming weeks as they are trying to off-load more players, following the exits of Lopez and Ünder. Only then will the club make a move to temporarily fix the cavity left by Spinazzola’s injury.
