Empoli boss Andreazzoli in awe of Pellegrini

Andy Mattioli

Aurelio Andreazzoli spoke to DAZN after his Empoli side sustained defeat at the Olimpico at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

When asked what went wrong for his team following Pinamonti’s premature substitution, the former Roma interim manager said:

“The team had expressed itself well up until Pinamonti’s injury. The first two real threatening shots were ours with Bandinelli and Pinamonti. With the exit of Andrea we lost confidence and thread of the game. It doesn’t have to happen, but it’s understandable.”

“While in past games we have shown clear ideas, today we didn’t do much. I did not like the first half for this reason. Second half was a bit better, even if the team we were playing against was very strong.”

“I must say that I liked the team, they took a step forward on the balance aspect. We lost that balance on Pellegrini’s goal, at the first opportunity. We have to have experiences to grow like tonight.”

On his hug with Pellegrini:

“It is not a secret. I told him: “How great are you?”

“I am glad that he has renewed his contract with the club, he has always shown that he is serious. As a footballer he is ideal, I would like to have 4 or 5 like him. In all positions. He is the ideal midfielder as far as I’m concerned.”
