Empoli boss Aurelio Andreazzoli happy to be back at the Olimpico

Andy Mattioli

Former Roma interim manager Aurelio Andreazzoli is back at the Olimpico tomorrow, leading his Empoli side up against Mourinho’s Roma.

The Empoli manager spoke ahead of tomorrow’s Serie A game in the capital.

On whether he expects a reaction from Roma following the derby loss:

“I believe that the derby, even if it was a situation that always affects the players, is over.”

“With the presence of the large audience I think that the derby from tomorrow at 6pm will be forgotten.”

“Roma are strong, the facts say so. They have great qualities.. An extremely dangerous opponent, we want to see where we are and I think it is the ideal match to have this confrontation.”

On the growth of his team:

“We knew we had a path to undertake, but we are a long way off. Times are so tight that it is clear that we still have the time to get it right.”

“We have reached a moment in which we are reaping the fruit of the experiences we made. We have not achieved anything yet, but we’re making small steps forward. Even backwards, of course, but as mentioned they are often more formative at times.”

On returning to the capital after his time as interim coach in 2013:

“The match is no different from other matches, I am very happy to come back, it is a place where I lived very well. I have many friends and some brothers in Rome, and therefore I am happy to return to a place that has welcomed me with great affection.”

On whether he plans on playing counter-attacking football against Roma:

“A team like Roma poses you many challenges that are not even predictable or visible. Clearly there is no single solution to face them, we have our own way of being and we will try to improve it, but there is no plan A or plan B. For me it is plan A that must always be improved.”
