Today, Mourinho will officially the address the media as Roma’s new manager for the 21/22 campaign. In the meantime, Tiago Pinto is busy finding solutions to a lot of Roma’s problems ranging from the infamous wage bill and players waiting to be sold (Nzonzi, Santon), released via contract termination (Fazio, Pastore) or loaned out (Coric, Bianda, etc), to finalizing the deals for Rui Patricio and Granit Xhaka and finally, finding a substitute to fill in the gap left by Spinazzola’s injury.
According to today’s edition of Il Tempo, Pinto has been approached by a number of intermediaries from the Premier League. For the left-back position, Roma’s General Manager wants to make a low cost operation. Thus, after being linked to Alioski, a former Leeds United player and current free agent, Roma have been offered the services of Patrick van Aanholt. The Dutch international who spent the past four seasons at Crystal Palace is looking for a new team to join on a free. Roma, among others, are monitoring him.
Finally, there is also a possibility that Chris Smalling might leave. If he were to leave to the Premier League – where he’s drawn the most interest from – another Manchester United player might become a valid option to replace him. Eric Bailly is reportedly close to leaving the Red Devils after only making 12 league appearances last season and might consider destinations in La Liga (his former club, Villareal, are interested in bringing him back) and Serie A.
