Daniele Ghilardi played in Gian Piero Gasperini’s away win, and the Ivorian didn’t miss the game. In the long run, however, the absence of the 1999-born player would be felt.
The number 5 is a lynchpin of the defense and one of those players the Grugliasco-born coach rarely does without. Ahead of the match against Atalanta, the worst was feared: today, September 2nd, the player underwent medical tests to clarify his condition.
The results were positive: the player only suffered a muscle inflammation and will most likely be available for the third matchday of the championship, when the Roman side face Bergamo. The coach may, however, decide to rest some players.
Roma are facing a tour de force. Roma-Atalanta will be played on September 5th, followed by Fenerbahçe-Roma on the 10th, their Champions League debut, and their league match against Torino on Monday the 14th.
Some players could be rested at the Olimpico against the Nerazzurri, and Gasperini could choose not to risk Evan Ndicka from the start. In his place, the coach could decide to keep Daniele Ghilardi or opt for Leonardo Balerdi: the manager will evaluate the Argentine in training.
