With Mourinho’s arrival, Smalling seems to be destined to leave Roma after two seasons. The English center-back, following an outstanding 19/20 campaign under Paulo Fonseca, could not find the same consistency in performances in his second year: only 21 appearances in all competitions in a year riddled with injuries. As a result, Roma are looking to sell the defender. According to Corriere Della Sera, the team that so far has expressed concrete interest in the player is Everton. Waiting to unveil their new coach, The Toffees are ready to offer 12 million euros (Roma’s asking price).
As for other defenders, despite the much rumored interest from Real Madrid, Roger Ibañez will not be leaving Roma anytime soon unless a hefty offer is made (upward of 40mln). Furthermore, Gianluca Mancini is up next in terms of contract renewal. Mancini is coming off a very positive season where he showcased his leadership skills in all of 40 appearances across all competitions. The 25-year-old defender, along with Bryan Cristante, will soon be meeting with Pinto to discuss the renewal details.
