Former Chelsea and Cagliari player and Sarri’s ex-assistant at Stamford Bridge Gianfranco Zola spoke to Il Messaggero about Roma’s progress with José Mourinho.
“I had seen the Giallorossi at the beginning of the season and they didn’t convince me.”
“Since then the team has grown and we must congratulate Mourinho because he managed to immerse himself in a new context, imposing his ideas and personality.”
On Mourinho giving youngsters like Zalewski a chance to emerge, Zola commented, “José’s work should also be praised in this respect.”
“He was historically used to leading teams ready to fight for great objectives. At Roma he is managing a different project. Zalewski is good.”
“Great coaches behave like José. They play to win even the less important trophies. The Conference League is a European competition and deserves respect: good for Mourinho, and a valuable lesson for everyone.”
