Former Inter manager Andrea Stramaccioni was recently asked to comment on Nicolo Zaniolo’s decision to exclude himself from Roma’s team sheet and push for an unexpected exit from the capital club.
“Last year Zaniolo contributed in important games like the Conference League final, but he also received so much from the fans in terms of love and affection over the years that it’s only right for them to be angry now,” Stramaccioni said in an interview with DAZN.
“In my opinion he was wrong in his statement: as long as you wear the club jersey you have to give 101%. If you are not injured you have to give 101% for the shirt you work for. Modern football is like this, there is the transfer market and an offer can arrive at any moment.”
“Mourinho is right in saying that as long as he is here he remains a Roma player. I have great respect for the player, but he could have handled this situation better. You can leave a club but it’s also important how you leave, with respect for everyone working there.”
