Ex-Inter Milan defender Giuseppe Bergomi discusses Roma’s dismissal of Mourinho

Former Inter Milan defender and legendary Italian centreback Giuseppe Bergomi shared his views on Roma’s decision to sack Jose Mourinho.

In an interview with Il Fatto Quotidiano, Bergomi did not hide his disappointment.

“Firing Mourinho could also be the right solution, football often takes unpredictable paths, but I don’t like the idea of getting rid of people from one day to the next. Mourinho may have made his mistakes, but he filled Roma with good things,” said the Italian commentator.

“He got Roma to win a trophy after 14 years. He lost a Europa League final the way we know how. He gave emotion, passion and unity to the Roma fans, producing an incredible series of sold-out crowds. He leaves Roma five points from fourth place, with half the team out of action due to injury and a weaker group than last season.”

“We will miss Mourinho. His farewell impoverishes our world of Italian football. It’s Daniele De Rossi’s turn, making his debut on the bench in Serie A. He was right to accept, despite the knowledge that he was entrusted with an almost impossible mission.”

“However, Daniele has the right requirements: he knows the environment, has an uncommon intelligence, has the motivation of someone who is taking the chance of a lifetime and has understood that in life you must never stop.”
