Former Inter president Massimo Moratti commented on the early difficulties that his former manager, José Mourinho, has encountered at Roma.

Moratti worked alongside the ‘Special One’ for three during their time together at the Nerazzurri, winning the triple in 2010.

The 76 year-old, who sold the club in 2016, stressed that supporters must be patient with Mourinho despite this difficult stretch of results.

“I suppose I have been surprised by the early struggles of Roma…but only up to a certain point,” he said to Il Mattino.

“Rome is an environment that expects a lot from José. But the team’s structure and character still has to be constructed.”

He added, “You also have to give him time and space. You don’t just win in football with will.”

Mourinho has come under criticism as the Giallorossi have won only one of their previous five league encounters.
