Former Italy and Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio weighed in on Daniele De Rossi’s time as Roma head coach and revealed past links with the Giallorossi in the early stages of his career.
Marchisio was interviewed by Il Messaggero ahead of tonight’s match between Roma and Juventus at Stadio Olimpico.
“It will be a balanced match. Juventus will have the advantage of being more rested, while Roma risk paying for their efforts in the Europa League,” said Marchision.
“De Rossi always manages to bring out the best in his players, Allegri has to mortgage the Champions League: it will be very tight. Juve had started well at the beginning of the season, the group believed in it, but Inter proved to be much further ahead.”
“De Rossi gave incredible new life to Roma in a difficult moment. With new stimuli and giving a fresh start to key players like Pellegrini. Coaching your favorite team with these results is a great challenge.”
“De Rossi? His qualities don’t surprise me. I was amazed by his ability to return to a world of great love and pressure: experiencing it as a coach is different than as a footballer. You must always be the first to protect the team.”
“In 2011 I was close to Roma. Roma wanted me and Buffon but Conte was adamant, and for the love of our team we continued in Turin.”
