Former Lazio attacker Paolo Di Canio was left disappointed by the Biancocelesti’s performance in their 3-0 defeat to Roma in the Derby della Capitale yesterday.

The Italian conceded that his former club couldn’t match the Giallorossi’s intensity and appeared overwhelmed at various points throughout the fixture.

“Every bit of context is extrapolated from the Derby. Roma were unwatchable in their past three matches coming into the fixture but they prepared very well for this game,” he said on Sky Calcio Club.

“Mourinho removed a crack (Zaniolo) who’s able to carry the ball and score entirely on his own and inserted two attacking midfielders in Pellegrini and Mkhitaryan.”

“Obviously the game changed after Roma scored so early, but I got the feeling they came into this match with more hunger and desire in order to get their season back on track.”

He continued, “Of course, everyone will forget the Derby if they lose the rest of their matches but this is the sort of match that can propel you to have a great latter part of your season.”

“Lazio, meanwhile, had a clearer identity coming into this game but Roma devoured them, all eleven on the pitch were poor. Look at Roma’s action on Abraham’s second goal…beautiful.”

“Zalewski? He’s the image from the Derby. This young lad who’s a bit nervous, he goes out and swallows Felipe Anderson.”
