Former Roma attacker Amantino Mancini joined a lot list of ex-Giallorossi players to be interviewed on the eve of Daniele De Rossi’s first derby as Roma’s head coach.
In an interview with Il Messaggereo, Mancini looked back on how De Rossi used to experience the Derby della Capitale as a player and what his future at Roma may hold.
“The fact of being Roman and a Romanista made the derby seem special in De Rossi’s eyes. He experienced it differently from the rest of us,” said the Brazilian winger.
“In those years I didn’t see him as a managerial figure, but as time went by I began to understand it. On the pitch he acted as the coach and was a direct link to the real manager in charge. He gave directions to everyone.”
“Now I see him very much involved in what he does on the touchline. He’s calmer because he has to worry about his emotions and refine his strategies. I like his gameplan, the way his team moves, he always looks to score.”
“I think he can continue coaching Roma for many years to come. He was born and raised there. He’s a Romanista – he’s perfect for the job.”
