Ex-Roma attacker Diego Perotti: “I’d like to return to Italy.”

Less than one year after leaving Roma, Diego Perotti has expressed his desire to return to Serie A.

The Argentine attacker departed the capital club last October after four and a half seasons in order to join Fenerbahçe.

However, much like his recent seasons in Rome, Perotti endured a disastrous campaign that was overshadowed by numerous injuries.

“I honestly thought about retiring,” began the 32 year-old to Sky Sport.

“When you suffer an injury like this (a torn Achilles), you begin to question if you’ve got the motivation to keep going. Then there’s the fact that I was left entirely on my own during this process. The surgery and rehabilitation were at my expense.”

“As for my future, my son was born in Genoa. Everyone knows how I feel about that city, it’s a part of my family. I still have one-year remaining on my deal with Fenerbahçe, though.”

He added, “But Italy is still Italy, it’s a country that’s in my heart. We all know how football works, there’s no certainties and you can never say never.”

“But for my part, I would like to come back to Italy.”
